Hyderabad’s Tanay Thayagarajan Shines as Nagaland Succumb to Innings Defeat | News | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: Hyderabad packed too many guns for Nagaland in their Ranji Trophy Plate Group fixture at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima on Saturday.
The visiting side had scored at a frenetic pace on the opening day to be in a position of strength and the finished the business with minimum fuss on the second day, winning by an innings and 194 runs.
If it was G Rahul Singh and skipper Tilak Varma, who hogged the limelight on Friday, it was their bowlers who rose to the occasion with left-arm spinner Tanay Thayagarajan being the pick of the lot.
Nagaland resumed at their overnight 35 for one and soon found Thyagarajan tough to counter and were bundled out for 153 in the first innings. RS Jaganath Srinivas was the top scorer with an unbeaten 49 while Thyagarajan claimed five for 43.
Hyderabad had no hesitation in enforcing the follow-on and the hosts fared worse in the second innings as the seamers led by left-armer CV Milind scythed through the top order. Wicket-keeper Sumit Kumar was the top scorer with 62 as Nagaland were shot out for 127. Milind clamed four for 21. Tanay helped himself to three wickets for a match haul of seven for 70.
Hyderabad next play Meghalaya from January 12.
