Congress may shift Telangana MLAs to Bengaluru in case of close finish | India News

HYDERABAD: While exit polls suggest a clear advantage for Congress in the Telangana assembly polls, the party high command is unlikely to take chances and may relocate its MLAs to Bengaluru or another city to prevent poaching in case of a tight finish on December 3, when results are announced.
Telangana unit Congress chief A Revanth Reddy is confident of the party’s victory, but sources said Thursday that a decision on relocatingMLAs will likely be made after the counting of votes on Sunday.”If Congress falls short of the 70-seat mark, the proposal is to move legislators to Bengaluru or another location, possibly confining them to a hotel or resort,” a senior leader said.
The magic figure for forming the government in the 119-member Telangana assembly is 60. While some exit polls predict a narrow majority for Congress, others forecast a clear win. In preparation, Congress has reportedly sent two coordinators to constituencies where its candidates are likely to win, and after obtaining certificates from election officers, they may be moved to an undisclosed location before heading to Bengaluru in a convoy of cars, the sources said.
Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar is expected to play a key role if MLAs need to be shifted. He successfully managed a similar situation for Congress and Janata Dal (S) MLAs in 2018 during the floor test in the Karnataka assembly.
